I spent quite a while on the phone with Ford the week I got Festus. They finally determined that a build sheet for him was unavailable. They weren't really able to explain why, blaming it on the computers.
That's strange. I was able to get one for my 1980 F150, and it was built at the San Jose assembly plant which shut down around 1984. You'd think if I can get one, you could definitely get one.
Indeed. After all I'd heard and read about build sheets, I was looking forward to it. Called 'em again this morning - now you must apply for them through Shop Ford Gear, at a cost of $17 and up.

Yep, they caught on to our little charade.
To be honest, the only things my build sheet told me about my truck that I didn't already know was that it originally came with the Extra cooling option, and that it was built on December 20, 1979.
For me, it was pretty worthless, but it's nice to have around. Unless your truck is heavily optioned, I wouldn't worry about it too much. $17 is a bit much in my opinion, but then again I'm a frugal cheap skate.
At one time, you could get 1967 and later build sheets for free (FoMoCo had to get the 1967/79 info from Marti [martiauto.com]).
About 9 months ago, Ford began charging for build sheets. If you call FoMoCo's 800 customer service number, you are directed to: shopfordgear.com to order it.
Hey cheapskate, see what martiauto charges for a Marti Report. In the late 1980's, FoMoCo was planning to THROW AWAY all the records for 1967/79 vehicles.
Kevin Marti, a Mustang "nut" in Phoenix AZ found about FoMoCo's plan and got ALL of it! If Marti hadn't saved it, there would be no records for these vehicles.
There aren't any records available for 1966 and older vehicles, because...FoMoCo THREW THEM ALL AWAY decades ago!
Now that the radio issue has been thoroughly and completely nailed down, there's not much else I don't know about my F100. The few "field modifications" that had been added over his first 30 years all came off in the first week I had him; other than that, he's a 1981 museum piece.
Yeah, $17 will buy six or eight ounces of gas. Not here...yet, but...who knows what the prices will be tomorrow?
$4.91 a gallon for 91 octane, $4.77 a gallon for 87 octane. Shell Station in a residential area 3 miles south of the 60 freeway here in Hacienda Slights (LA county) CA
Don't really want to hijack the thread but seems like the **** issue is resolved. So having one of the Ford radios without the separate *****, don't know the right name for it. The rectangular shaped one. Anyone have a picture of what the factory mount looks like so I'll have an idea of what to look for at the junkyard? I fab'd one that works but would like to find a factory one.
Thanks
Keith
For the 1985-1986 there are two seperate mounts. One for the top, and one for the bottom. The mounts screw into the radio, and then screws to the dash as normal.
Thanks for the replies.
Yea that looks like what I would think it must be, it's kind of like what I fab'd up. Don't know what mine came with but the PO had a radio installed in it and they butchered the mounting bracket. Must have been one of the one's with the 2 separate shafts originally. But the radio was shot when I got it and the "new" bezel I got with the clock used the other type radio so that's what it has now.
