2005 f250 bad engine should I buy?

Hello, my work has a 2005 f-250 with a bad cam and some bad lifters. I can get the truck for a good price ($550), how much should this cost to get her running again? Is it worth the risk? Opinions please, and thanks for your input.

They are selling you the truck for $550.00? Thats pocket change, you can get a rebuilt long block for $4500.00

How many miles? If it is not to high 550.00 is a good deal you could flip it easy.

Even if it has a million miles $550 is a great price ..... you could get your money back just selling parts.

If you can afford to drop a new engine in it for $4,500 to $7,000 depending on options then that's a fantastic deal. No reason a new engine like that wouldn't give you another 250,000+ miles.

Why don't I find deals like this

Here's another option for a source. I haven't done business with them. It's been on my local Craig's list for several months now. Heading says $3,995. Not sure about the "revised" V/R Black Onyx head gasket either.

$550?!?!?

For that kind of money it would already be in my garage with me tearing the engine out.

You can sometimes score a good engine out of a wrecked truck on craigslist. Just make sure the year of the motor matches the truck so you don't have to mod the harness for the new motor.

With such a GOLDEN opportunity, I'd bulletproof the motor since you'll already have it out to replace the other one.

-ARP Studs
-EGR Delete
-New Oil Cooler (as a precaution)
-Check and Clean the motor from top to bottom
-Replace all the gaskets and seals from top to bottom (bedplate, rear main, any other potential leak points)

One of these days I'll get my truck a built 6.0 playmate....

But dude, in the meantime, doooooooo iiiiiiitttttt!

Sounds like a winner.
But just remember, if your plans are to build a 6.0 (or any diesel for that matter) on the cheap, don't bother.
