Anyone rebuilt one? Ours is puting oil in the intake and since it mostly runs high load/high rpm its probably best to fix it now. Anyone know of an upgraded turbo that would bolt up? Thanks folks.

 

I've rebuilt a couple turbos. It's not hard at all. If you want an upgrade, shop for a Holset HX40 from a Cummins 8.3 of around the same hp level you're at. That, or one off a newer DT466. The newer Garrett is a GT37 or GT40(depending on what you get). The factory IH one is an AiResearch T04(puny little thing).

 

Thanks for the info, but apparently someone ordered a stock replacement already. But now Im thinking about rebuilding the old one and putting it on our 766 with the 360IH motor. If the wheels havent made contact with the housing the assembly shouldnt need balancing right? Sometimes I've seen endshaft nuts with machine marks so I'm wondering...

 

Yes, the machining is for balance. When you take apart the old one, mark the shaft in relation to the impeller to keep that balance.
