I just looked up my axle codes and the dana 70u rear is a 1983.5-1985 f350 chassis and the dana 50 is from a 1984.5 ttb f250/350 snow fighter frame. So ill correlate and say its a 1984 late year f350. Makes sense since i had to pull one leaf off the front when i went with the stroked 351w and had to cut the frame for the oil filter to fit. Must have been a diesel frame like they said and the small block wasnt heavy enough to squat the front end and filter was in a different spot. Between your and my research im content to say 1984 F350.
Did you have to add the motor mount towers to the back of the frame? If it looked like this, sans the motor mount towers on the back, it was a diesel frame.
I can't tell from the picture but my 351 mounts hook on the back of the engine frame crossmember. We had to cut into the crossmember to access the oil filter to remove or fit the engine down. I'm sure the name crossmember is not correct but it's the part that the gets in the way of the oil pan and the reason for lifting the motor to get in the pan. I was going to take a picture but I can't get an angle into it. It's no big deal on if it was a diesel or not. I was more concerned with what we found out earlier about year and type. Now I have the fun time of replacing a rear main seal on an almost brand new motor. Yay! I'll probably take it in for that due to not having anytime for the work. Its a 77 block so maybe they can get lucky and not have to completely take the motor out or c6 off.
Did you use the oil pan that came with the motor, or did you switch it to rear sump? The 80's frames require rear sump, while a motor from a 77 will have a front sump. The proper frame should look like this:
I have a rear sump. That hole you have for the filter wasnt on mine so we had to cut one in the crossmember where yours is next to the steering gear. My mounts bolt into the standard slots behind that portion.
