87 Ford Ranger 2.9, Knocking
I just bought a 87 Ford Ranger 2.9L v6 4x4. It has a tick to it. It doesn't stop, it doesn't increase with acceleration it stays the same. I sprayed some SeaFoam in it and It helped the performance a lot (More horsepower, better reaction to the pedal.) But it is still knocking. I have never tore apart an engine before or messed with lifters or anything. I'm not completely sure how to fix it. I know knocking is not a good thing either.

Doesn't change in frequency or volume level? Are you sure it is in the engine? Only thing I can think of is something not connected physically to the crank in some way. I remember certain jeeps had a noisey canister purge solenoid that you had to isolate from the bracket, but that would be a stretch.

Manual or automatic trans?
With a manual it's possible something broke inside the bellhousing, whether it is the actual clutch pressure plate or possibly the throwout bearing.
With an auto trans the flexplate and convertor could be working it's way loose.
The fuel injectors are fairly noisy on these engines, at least the couple of 2.9's I have been around.
Same with the lifters, the 2.9 is known for those making a racket.
