How To: Change CPS + My CPS Blurb

Given how common CPS failures are, I felt a video was necessary. But, its pretty easy, so the last 1/2 of the video is me talking about the CPS and its basic functions.

CPS - YouTube

In the video I talk about the CPS detecting the teeth on a gear. This is the gear in question. Notice the square holes in the gear? This is actually what the CPS is detecting, no the teeth. You will also notice that 2 of the squares are different sizes. These identify cylinder 1 and 4 to the CPS

The target wheel spokes and spaces are each 15 crank degrees, except for narrow spoke which indicates cylinder No. 1 and a wide spoke which indicates cylinder No. 4 (fires 5th). Thank you to mueckster for the manual citation, and SnackDoc for the picture.

Trey, did you change to the Borg Warner? Curious if any changes noticed, worth the experiment.

Yes, I did change to it for experimental purposes. I heard that AE data placed the BW nearer to the OEM Black CPS than the Grey. However it has a bad reputation for poor longevity, so we will see.

After installing a smoother idle was immediately noticed, and in the weeks following, MPG has improved.

Maybe... Some had to replace in a week, some 6 months.

I never was very good at poker, might wait a little longer. At least they are easy to replace, the tools and a spare are in my glove box.

Hey thanks for the info...my truck has been chugging and crapping out for a couple months. I was figuring it was something in my fuel or some crap like that the way it acted. Finally put the scanner on it and that's what I came up with. It sure acted strange though, it would chug more on hills and rough roads and some times it would run great for weeks with out messing up once.
