Hey guys i have a 05 crew cab fx4, I've been loosing coolant and today while engine was warm I looked under the hood and heard a hissing sound like air escaping but couldnt tell where, their was moisture or coolant on some hoses and stuff just couldnt tell if it was the cap or not, thanks for the help.
How much white stuff is there? Can you post a picture? Does it look like coolant pushed out of the cap under pressure, or does it look like it was spilled while filling the bottle?
I'm thinking you have an EGR cooler leak and we r barking up the wrong tree here, but we should follow through with this anyway to rule out head gaskets.
all the white stuff is on the turbo down pipe which is above the egr cooler correct.
There's a heater hose back there too, could be leaking there and spraying on the down pipe. I'd start with replacing the degas bottle cap and see if your residue & coolant loose goes away. Or if you really want to cut to the chase...park the truck nose down, pull the EGR valve and looking for coolant in the intake. That's how you confirm a failed EGR cooler.
I'm such a dumb a.. I went to pull the egr valve and in the process i saw the top hose from the degas bottle to the radiator was off. I took it off when I did my blue spring mod. about the same time this started happening. Easy fix but I feel so stupid. Thanks for all the info learned alot about the egr system.
