OK here's the deal, I decided to put a set of 38"s on my 78 and after a few months my power steering slowly started going out until finally my pump started whininstillg bad then finally went out. As I checked the fluid I realized that the fluid was bubbling out as I took the cap off. I thought the pump was bad so I went out and bought a new one and installed it. After jacking up the front and turning the wheels to get the air out of the line it still doesn't work and doesn't even whine. Could I have missed something when I installed the new pump? Or can it be the steering box? I'm clueless lol . Any help would be appreciated!
I have been lucky, I can turn my 39.5's stop to stop with one finger but i really expected problems. I have read that it is really important to flush out gearbox really well and replace all lines(cooler lines too) before putting new pump into service. I'm sure others will help.
This is how you bleed all the air out of these trucks. A couple other guys posted how they do it, but if all else fails, my way WILL work. Check it out....
