Going to use hydrochloric acid to clean out tank.Does anyone have any idea how much water can be added to one gallon acid and not reduce it to much to work and how long to let it stand in tank to do a good Job?
Ive never used acid for that. In my experience the ticket for cleaning the tank is actually pretty simple. Take a few hand fulls of clean pebbles and put them in the tank. Shake the crap out of it. Remove pebbles and put a hose or pressure washer in there to clean it up well. Let dry then take some tank sealer and slosh it around until its fully coated. Should be good for years to come.
The bottle should have directions on how much to dilute. But I'll give it a shot.
From what I've read you want 7 parts water to 1 part acid. Remember add acid to water not water to acid. Also this method will clean your metal very well so it may reveal rust holes (pinholes) that were noticed prior. As well it also allows the metal to rust very quickly because there is nothing protecting it. You could always just buy a tank restoration kit. It comes with cleaner, rust remover, and a sealant. But even after going through all this trouble why not just get another tank and do an under the bed install such as instigators(forgot his actual screen name but close enough). You can even make a set up so it fills from the side of the bed like modern pickups.
