I've owned two Dodge's: an '87 Dakota with the 3.9L and a '95 Ram 1500 with the 5.2L 318CID - both regular cabs. Had numerous issues with the Dakota, mostly carb related. The Ram was great mechanically but had paint/rust issues. The clear coat flaked off the lower silver paint and the driver door rusted through at the bottom.
My brother-iun-law still runs the Ram, has to be close to 150k or more - engine will last forever, body will fall apart soon.
Neighbor's kid has an '02 2500 with the Cummins, no issues and a late model Ram - drives like he stole it but no idea how it has held up to the beating.
