mstng5point0- If you would, post up some pictures of this steering setup. I'd like to take a closer look at it. Never seen one done this way and would like to see what it looks like all installed. I'd really appreciate it.
As for your crossmember, just as Ax said, Mid-Fifty carries pretty much what the industry offers. Being that it's a smallblock, you should have miles of room in there to mount it, even with headers.
I took some pictures with my cell phone but they didnt come out to well. I will try this week to get some with my camera.
Im gettin the small black out of a 89 mustang and hoping i can squeeze the mustang headers in by moving the motor to the right. As a last resort i figure i can use 5.0 explorer headers as they are as tight as your going to get.
Another choice might be a set of streetrod block huggers. IIRC the Explorer's header tube sizes are a little small. A little bit bigger primary tube would allow that smallblock to breathe a little better. The biggest thing is making sure the collectors are gonna end up where you want them to be, as well as gettin around your steering box.
I was setting up my '53 Crestline with a 302 and had a set of Headman Shorty headers for 66-71 Fairlanes, Falcons, Mustangs...etc. They fit the Crestline like they were meant to be there! So Score +1 for me! I had tried those after not really being happy with how the streerod block huggers were fitting. The Shorty Headmans are swept back a bit and could possibly work well for you too as they have to work with those @*&%# shock/spring towers in those cars.
The engine compartment in our trucks is HUGE! I have seen everything from BBs, Hemis, cammers, V10s etc etc fit into them without a whimper. The major point of interference with a Ford SB is between the front sump oil pan and IFS conversion crossmembers, but swapping to a Bronco or aftermarket rear sump pan solves that problem. Call Sanderson to find out your best header option if you want something other than the OEM ones.

Have you been able to get a couple of shots of this set-up, I too plan on doing this conversion to my 50'.
I havent been able to. My camera is in my tool box at work and i keep forgeting it. My cell phone pics all seem to be to dark. So i will try to remember to get my camera and get some pics for you guys. I just got a mid fifty catalog and it says they no longer make the gm conversion kits.
