I am thinking about buying a new car trailer in the semi-distant future. I am starting to put together a spec sheet. These are the things I have come up with. I would like to hear what some of the experienced guys have to say about what I may not be thinking of.
102'x20' wood deck (18' flat+2' beaver tail)
10,000 lbs capacity
2 5/16" ball hitch
heavy duty tongue jack
7 spade RV style connector
protected wiring loom via grommets and snake skin
Dexter torsion axles w/ EZ lube hubs
4-wheel electric brakes w/ break away
rubber mounted LED lighting
stake pockets 2 ft on center on all sides
D-rings on all corners, 4-lighter duty D-rings recessed in floor, 1/2 length of floor
lockable water tight tongue storage box
10,000 lb hand winch w/ 30' strap
load range D radial tires
aluminum wheels w/ mounted spare
E rated tires and do away with the ez lube hubs unless you are going to have it in water. You are better off with the old fashioned style as your miles will be all hwy.
Thanks for the input guys.
My plan is mainly to transport broke down vehicles to my house to fix them, as well as taking ATV's to the trail.
E-rated tires it is!
Ive added a couple things to my list since I posted this. The two biggest things are a heavy duty power tongue jack, and a removable electric winch.
Question... what is the purpose of removable fenders?
Thanks again,
Aaron
The fenders are removeable so that a wide vehicle can run over the trailer tires instead of running over the fenders and bending them. Another vote for E rated tires.
what are you putting on it? if you want to pull a f-250 it will not be rated high enough.
the rest sounds good
Check price difference on a 14k lb trailer. A lot of new trucks weigh close to 10k, and I a ASSume you know a 10k lb trailer is rated for 10k lbs combined trailer and load weight.
Yes I am aware of the 10k rating is the empty trailer + the load. I dont PLAN on loading a super duty, but I suppose I should plan for the worse and hope for the best! I also know that I cant load my truck on this trailer and pull it at the same time. lol
Ive never considered a gooseneck, but may have to start...
