I don't want to make it a sports car... that is just not possible. I would like to remove the 3.5" gap between the tire and fender, just for the look that's all.
I am also trying to understand what the previous owner did. The spring pack has 6 leaves in it. Are you saying it should have 7?
I measured from the top of the axle to the frame and it is 6".
it looks like as mentioned you have aftermarket springs on it with so little arch . so he 'prolly replaced 'em with them , and the number of leaves then is a moot point as they aren't the factory units . just pop the rivets outta the rear / front spring perches and move them to the top of the frame , and either shim the diff or knock the spring pads off and reweld them to reset the pinion angle . that should give you another 1 1/2 too 2 inches of drop . the shims are available at speedway i know . then you can try extended rear hangers like i did from mf which might lead to them thumpin' into your bed floor though , for a couple of more . that's the cheapest way . or just go nuts and buy an air ride system and start cutting .... which i just don't get as the large cars i drive with air ride can be a complete pain in the **** in severe weather , and can be prone to other issues .
ooooooooooopppppppssssssssss !!!!!!!!!! i didn't think 'o' that one ax .................. could be and issue later .................... i looked at the local salvage yards , and called one i know the owner , and the general concensus is , dodge d50 , hell they all rotted away years ago and we scrapped 'em !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so you guys in better weather areas might have some luck , but not here in da rusty-belt !!!!!!!!!
will try that ax . my rear springs are a little worn , the extra's i'm using , and i have been contemplating replacement so ..... hades if vern is right that'd give me almost 6 inches of drop ...... look out road courses the almighty ford is coming to dominate !!!!!!!!!!!! and plow up the grass and rock runoff area's ....... LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, the only way to determine drop or lowering is to measure from axle center line to top of frame. arch of the spring has little to do with it. You need about 4" of clearance above the axle so there is a limit to how low you can go without modifying the frame. Never remove the axle bump stops to gain clearance, metal to metal contact can do a lot of damage quickly.
Ax, should it have 4" to the axle bump or to the frame?
