MY 04 Excursion limited has 154k miles on it. Up until about 2 weks ago the RSS worked great. Then the light on the dash that turns the RSS off when you are backing up a trailer was intermittenly on/off then it stayed on the whole time. The switch doesnt lock in one position. Like the clicker is bad. I spent $28 and got a new swithc hoping this would fix the problem and Momma could back her school bus up with no problems. Not so. I checked out all the sensors and when you get in front of them individually you can hear them clicking. but the switch is still stuck in off. I disconnected the battery and reset the system and it still doesnt work. I cant find any skematics in my Haynes/Chilton manual for this system. there is no fuse for it in the owners manual. WTFO!
Any suggestions or ideas?
I've heard lately of people having the speaker go dead for the RSS, which trips the light to let you know there's a problem. The speaker is located near the right rear vent window motor, behind the small cutouts in the plastic.

Makes total sense...if the speaker or connector is on the fritz, the circuit can't be completed...the light must be based on the complete circuit (or lack of)...
Before buying a new speaker, maybe check the pick and pull lots...I haven't heard of too many if these systems dying out, so old speakers have a good chance of still working.
The parking aid control module is also located in the jack compartment mounted underneath the rear air box mounted on D pillar. If you need a wiring diagram let me know. I have a ford one.
The wiring diagram would help tremendously. I am an Avionics guy in the Marines and i try to get a meter and troubleshoot the crap out of everything before i pay someone. Email it to jeffrey.beaty@usmc.mil. Thanks man.
So I took off the panel and pulled out this little speaker. couldnt see anything exactly wrong. OHMd across it an dit was open. Speaker bad. Add 1 6X9 speaker and you get ...... A working system. Thanks for all your help. now if i can just find one of the replacement speakers so I can take the 6X9 out of the jack compartment.
Too funny, Gunny. I was avionics in the Navy. See my avatar. I did my h-53 training at New River back in the mid 90's. I hated that place....the 6x9 had me laughing. Typical "tron" solution!!!
Thanks again for all the help. I did some research and the parts sotres have nothing for the reverse sensing system but i found the speaker online through Allied Electronics ( ALLIEDELEC.COM) for $1.80 . the shipping cost more than the part. but i should have it in 2 days and can pull the 6x9 oout of the jack compartment.

You sure you don't want to rig up an amp to it and use it as an external backup alarm?
