Yet another Towing Mirror Question
I have a 2000 X with power mirrors with defroster. So from what i read that means power with heat.
So, popped off the driver door panel to look at the connectors. I have attached a pic of what I found. A round one with 4 wires and a flat one with 2 wires.
Now, I assume the 4 is the glass position and the pair is the defroster.
Many of the mirrors on Ebay say they won't work with 2 connector setups.
Like this one here:
00 01 02 03-05 EXCURSION PASSENGER SIDE POWER TOW MIRROR DUAL SWING HEATED RIGHT | eBay
It does come with the adapter, but I will end up with no defroster.
Will I need to cut off the defroster wires and put them on the connector from my existing mirrors? That should do the trick.
Does anybody know where I can get some that drop right in without any splicing at a good price?
Thanks,
D.
I haven't found the connectors that have both the heat and motor wires as separate connectors anywhere.
Before you buy, check out the classified section here. I know my old power heated tow mirrors will go up in the classified section once I get the new heated power signal mirrors wired in (Wed or Thurs).
EDIT:
I HAVE found the harnesses...part numbers 1C3Z14A411BA and 1C3Z14A411AA:

Check my post above...I edited it...the harnesses I got DO have both connectors (heat and mirror position wires).

What is the difference in the harnesses?
Do I need one of each?
Thanks,

I was hoping the harnesses would have the additional 2 wires needed to make the signal part (marker light and turn signal light), but they don't. It's easy enough though to identify what wires go to what once you see the harness, then you can just splice in to get the turn signal and marker light features to work (if you get the mirrors that have those added in).

I just added the wiring today - tied the marker lights into the wire from the light switch, and tied the turn signal wires in to the actual turn signal wiring for the lights up front.

Here is a link to how to get the door panels off:

On the mirror side, each connector has a brown wire - this is the "hot" wire for the marker lights. On the driver side, the Light Blue is the signal...on the passenger side, the White wire is the signal. No need to worry about ground - they all use a common ground. I borrowed a link from someone who added puddle lights so you can see the harness connector I'm talking about:
2004 F250 Puddle Lights
The harness doesn't have the two wires tapped in, so you need to use a wire tap on the mirror side, then immediately add a quick disconnect.
On the truck side, I used the brown wire from the back of the headlight switch (use a multimeter to verify you have the right one - I don't know if they changed colors from 2000-2001 to 2002-2005) for the marker light.
One guy used the wires from the harness under the kick panel/sill plate on the driver side, but you need to probe the wires to verify you have the right one:
Here is a link to his page where he wires up running board marker lights:

I didn't feel like tearing the F650 dash panel off to get to the turn signal relay, so I just pulled the turn signals and tapped into the harness behind the bulbs and ran the wires back into the cabin and through the rubber door tunnels. On each bulb there is three connectors. One is the ground (on one end), the middle is the "low" filament lead and the other end is the "high" filament end. On mine, one side was green/yellow stripe, the other was yellow/green stripe. Use a multi-meter to double check.
I ended up buying them off ebay. Ft Worth auto parts had them for $220 for a pair - free shipping. I had to pay 8.25% sales tax on them. They come with the adapter.
I actually call them and they check on the adapter, etc. Called me back, etc.
They should be here on Monday. I suspect I will have to cut the defrost connector off my existing mirrors, but oh well.

Your first post said you have heated mirrors now (meaning you have the wires in the door). If you got the mirrors you linked to in that post, then the mirrors you are getting has heater elements.
The link to the aucion showed the wrong adapters on the listing for heated mirrors...they advertised heated power mirrors, but posted a pic of the adapter made for just power mirrors. There is a good chance the seller just screwed up and put the wrong pic. You said the place was an automotive parts shop...they probably have the right connector in the box.
If for some reason he actually does include the wrong harness, you have three options:
1) contact him to point out he's selling a power heated mirror with the adapter for a power ony mirror and see if he gets you the right one. Feel free to allude to returning the item since it most definately isn't "as described".
2) buy a pair of two-wire quick disconnects and using wire taps, tap into the mirror side and truck side of the harness to get the power to the mirror heater element and still make it easy to quickly remove the mirror if needed.
3) buy the correct adapters and put your incorrect adapters on the classified section
I'd personally do option 1...if an eBay seller that big (an obvious business) then they should take the time to put up correct listings or make it right when an error occurrs.
I hope it is correct, but if it isn't I am not going to buy $50 in adapter. I'll cut the connectors off my existing mirrors and make it work. Shouldn't be a big deal. I suspect the picture on ebay was just wrong.
