U-Joint bolt torque

What is the torque setting for the bolts holding the rear U-joint on. I'm going to grease the slip joint. I looked around but didn't see it on here.

Also too anybody use blue Loctite for the bolts?

Year & model of your truck ???? Your profile says you have a 1998 F-150. Are you talking about the bolts that hold the rear driveshaft flange onto the rear axle flange ???

I guess I forgot to do that and fixed it. Not sure why the 150 was there although I wouldn't mind the gas mileage about now............ It's a 2006, F-350 4x4...Yes I'm talking about the rear bolts that hold on to the U-joint.

Rear Driveshaft Retention Bolt Torque

If you have a circular flange, the bolt torque is 76 foot pounds. If you have 2 straps, then the bolt torque is 26 foot pounds. These figures are for the standard 10.5" Sterling/Ford single rear wheel axle.

RON

P.S. Your profile still says 98 F-150.

Looks like it's 32 ft-lbs if you have a Sterling 10.5. Not sure what year you have or when they stopped putting the 10.5 in the back.

You have a 1350 or 1410 series u-joint depending on configuration:

Torque spec is in Chart 2:

https://spicerparts.com/resources/lube-torque-specs

Seems awfully high for such a small bolt but the pages don't lie.

Since it has risen from the dead, I'd like to know the proper spec also? I've found multiple specs and would like to do it properly. I actually regressed the slip joint on my 2004 f350 last night with the proper ford grease and when I reinstall the four bolts onto the axle flange I just use red locktite and my 16" long 1/2" ratchet and I pull down till I cant turn the bolts any longer.
Haven't had a problem with that in 160k but I'm **** and like to torque everything to spec

Is loctite absolutely essential on these? I greased my slip joint today and didn’t have any loctite when I reinstalled my rear joint flange.

I’ll get some tomorrow. I’m just making sure it’s safe to drive until then. I would think so....

Yes, but the internet is forever. Someone coming across this or having the same question will be curious to the answer even if the thread is suspended in time for years with no answer.

I've come across those threads thinking I've found my pot of gold with all my answers only to find that a dozen posts down it just ends.

I'm also OCD about that kind of stuff. I can't remember what website I took the screenshot from but that one has the Spicer driveline parts list for every year in the drop-down menus. I don't know if they made any changes between '03 and '04.

I don't think so. I've put medium threadlocker on the ones I've remove but I don't think there was any on there when I took them out the first time.

I ended up snagging some loctite and a torque wrench from my neighbor last night and got them torqued down to spec. Bump-thump is gone for now!
