1984 F150 300 I6

I just bought a 1984 F150 with the 300 I6. It doesnt run and i cant figure out why. The guy ran it out of gas one day. When he went to start it after refueling, it wouldnt turn over. Just keeps cranking. He pulled a fuel line and gas was pumping. We sprayed starter fluid into the carb and still nothing. Need a little help here please and thank you

Well, if you have gas delivery to the carb, then I think the next thing to check is to see if you have spark at the spark plugs to ignite the gas: How to check for spark - YouTube

Check for spark. If you have none, I would pull the dist cap and then crank the engine and make sure the rotor is going around and around when the engine is cranked. If it's ok, the I would try a swapping out the ignition module.

Hello,
Accidentally knocked the small ground wire off the battery of an 84 F150 I-6 I had and it would crank & crank & crank no start. Hooked that little wire back up and tad-ah it started right up. Just my experience.

There may be a wiring diagram on Autozone's site under "repair guides".

Thank you! I hope it helps too. My buddy was wanting it. Hopefully he knows whats going on with the truck. I also heard that there was a computer in the 84s. Seems odd to me but is this true?

It had aftermarket dist Mallory with electric ignition.

Yes it's true. If your distributor does not have a vacuum line going to it, it still has the computer system on it in some form or fashion.

The PO may not be aware himself of something that happened, or he could be lying....

It had vacuum line to there.

What interested that dist look BRAND NEW. If you remove dist cap it never been use.

I suspect he replace dist then after it won't start then sell on Craigslist. What interested me that I forgot how test dist's plug there were 3 wiring. I think Red, Green, and brown.
