Is this normal?

Connecting rods, I move them towards the front and back of the engine I have a little play but no side to side, is this normal or they have to be tight.

Thank you for your comments.

Yes, it is "normal". I don't have the books in front of me but the rod bearing clearance is something like .005 or so. The side clearance between rods and crank is more like .010-.015. If there is and oil film between the crank and bearing, it would be near impossible to feel movement sideways, but easy fore and aft. Are you assembling a new engine? Did you measure with plastigauge?

If you need the measurements, I can help look them up for you. My numbers come from the V8s of yester-year, and I'm going from memory.

My engine its knocking and I have check everything, I don't know what else to do, timing chain, guides, tensioner, manifolds, pulled valve covers everything its tight in there, no vacuum leaks, spark plugs are good (not blown).

Maybe clogged catalytic converter, bad harmonic balancer?

If you see my other posts I have a video.

Thanks ecam8000
