Ugly exhaust tip...
This exhaust tip on my new Super Duty 6.7L is about the strangest contraption I've seen. The book says it's functional. Functional for what? I can only imagine that the venting allows it to suck in air in order to cool the exhaust before it exits. If for no other reason, then I've got a 5" polished stainless Banks tip that would look sooooo much better. Any thoughts?

It is exactly for emissions. You have a DPF on the 6.7 (for emissions) and when it goes thru a cleaning cycle the exhaust gets extremely hot.
So the slots in the exhaut help to pull in some air to cool the exhaust and lessen the possiblity of burns.
Every functional.
There are some aftermarket exhaust systems out there if you desire.

There are exhaust systems out there without the louvers in the tip for the 6.7L, so it should not be a problem. You could try cutting some louvers into the tip. Senex is correct with the functionality of the current tip. There are even videos of it online with flames shooting out.
