Do some research on 460 engine builds! Get familiar!
For instance, Carcraft did a 460 build, stock shortblock, mild cam and rebuilt, non ported Dove heads(again, very similar heads from 1968-1970 base 429-460's-not Cobra Jet stuff) and an Edelbrock intake, and the fanciest thing was roller rockers.
Anyways this 8.8:1 460 made 433hp, and 491ft lbs of torque. Nothing fancy, smooth idle etc.
RESEARCH is your friend.
*note: Always use a "straight up" timing chain, not the stock retarded emission timing chain from 1971 on, if you want to make power, otherwise, stay retarded in power, and economy. Emission control does not give you economy on old engines, or most engines for that matter, Jmo.
Heh, just a comment about how the carcraft guys were dumbfounded with the complicated Ford engine, vrs. the find it in the ditch, replace everything chevy motors. again, my opinion!
guys I know ain’t much info to go on he said 10:1 compression and the 429 heads and more about the truck than the motor but I fig for $500 I can’t get hurt but it’s a 76 2x2 350 super camper special so I figure the weight at scrap will almost pay for it if there is anything left after I part it LOL
guess I be findin out this weekend
