I got a 87 bronco 351w 150000 miles. Almost everyday on my way to work my truck stalls atleast twice at stop lights and everyonce in a while it will stall when i go around corners slow giving it no gas. i just need a list of a few parts i should change that could cause this. My truck has been to the shop a few times but they said they can never get it to act up when its there so they dont nowhere to begin. Its my stepfathers performance shop and they are always to busy to take days to figure it out ,
and since he does it for free they arent going to spend a lot of time on it unless they no what it is. So if i just give him a few things to change it would be a lot easier for me and him....
anything would help ...thanx hoghunter
its not fuel injection........ its a carb but not a stock one its a holley . which one dunno but my stepfather said its a pain in the butt too get running right.
Hoghunter, the stalling could be from lots of things. The first thing to check would be the carb float level. Since it does it when you stop and turn, maybe the fuel level is too low, and is sloshing away from the jets.
Another thing to check would be the idle mixture screws on the front of the carb. If they are set too lean, that could cause stalling. You could try turning them out 1/4 turn and see if that helps. Also make sure the curb idle is set to specs for your vehicle, probably around 700-750 rpm......

None until you specifically identify them as being bad. Throwing money at a vehicle rarely makes it run any better, and often worse. Get a book about tuning carbs and do some simple diagnostics, like hooking up a vacuum gauge. You can probably find a lot of good info online, maybe even at the Holley site.
I have a 95 351 XLT that has been stalling all spring. Took it to a highly regarded shop and it posted no error codes and of course they can not duplicate the problem.
After having endured this for the past few months I noticed that it seems to happen after a fill up and when it idles. It will happen at three consecutive lights and then not do anything wrong for two weeks.
Could there be something in the tank or line that is blocking. (New Fuel Pump 10/02) If so how can I check the tank or line to verify my suspicions??
i had the same prob in mine i have a 87n to but i got the 302 in mine an i put in new ignition module an it took that problem away they are cheep i payed 50$ for mine an its all better now but now i just came in to a nother problem i lost all spark to my truck so now it wont start an i have put in new (( coil- distributer- dis cap - rotor- ign mod - ecu- plugs- wires )) an still i have nothing so if i was you i would have it checked out because you might end up in my place because i started out the same way you are an look at me now it wont start
also look at my forum listing in here its called (( no spark )) from broncoblasta
Try pulling a couple of sparkplugs and showing them to your stepfather. Anyone who is running a performance shop should be able to tune a Holley just by reading the sparkplugs.
Start with the simple stuff first. With 150K miles chances are good you have a leaky vacuum hose or two. Replace any that are questionable. Check the PCV valve and make sure it's not sticking. Make sure the idle and timing are set right and that the vacuum advance still works (it could have a bad diaphram).
