Broken shift tube

Broken shift tube
I have a 1979 F100, 4.9L with 3-speed manual (column). I broke the small rectangular piece of metal off the top of the shift tube and am now in the process of looking for a replacement. LMC Truck did have the replacement, but they no longer do. They have two shift tubes, one for trucks with power steering (discontinued) and one for those without (still available). I have power steering and was wondering what the difference was between the tube for trucks with power steering and those for trucks without? Can I interchange them? Or
should I just have a welder reattach that piece onto the shift tube and call it a day? The tube and the rectangular piece of metal both look good with the hole seemingly unaltered due to wear.
Thanks for any help!
