So the other morning I was comming out of work and the guys were all gathered around a coworkers 05 king ranch f250 6.0 psd.
when I got there I gathered up the intel that it wouldn't start... it would crank and crank but no start. so being the helpful guy i am i start to help trouble shoot it. checked for CEL, checked fuel cut off button under pass kick panel lisened for fuel pumps, checked some fuses and relays and such, but couldnt come up with anything.
He said he would have it towed to the dealer since we could not come up with any other ideas, and we all parted ways after the tow truck arived.
the next day he catches up with me and said the dealer called and said they found a faulty fuel pressure sensor and it would end up costing him $1100 dollars, and there not sure if it needs more after that gets installed, but they cant go further with out that being replaced.
What Pressure sensor in the world cost's $1100 freeking dollars!!!!
They said it was actualy $700 for the part and the rest was for labor...
So my question is, do you 6.0 guys know of a sensor that is $700 bucks retail? or did my bud get the hose? Keep in mind they didnt say fuel pump, and besides i could hear a pump running when you cycle the key, if it is the whole pump replacement then i can understand the price
Now I have worked on 4 million dollar pieces of equipment before while in the military with some pretty expensive sensors and such, but not even these come close, and those ones had gold for electical contacts...
Considering there is NO fuel pressure sensor on a 6.0, either he missunderstood them, or the dealer tech is an idiot and has no idea what he is looking at.
And no I can't think of a single sensor on the truck that runs anwhere near $700
edit....Did they mean FICM posibly? That would make more since.
I will see if I can get his invoice tomorow, leaving work this morn I saw it out there in the P/L so its back on the road.... Im thinking he may have misunderstood also
ok so i caught up with him this morning about 5am... he dosnt remember excatly what he paid for, but he is going to put the invoice in my tool box when he comes into work the next time... should be this morning some time... the dealer actually ended up at 1300 for the total but after some "negotiation" he ended up close to the 1100 buck estimate originaly quoted on the phone. the dealer also tryed to collect on the tow bill! I dont know of a dealer that runs a wreker service... anyway he is interested in what you all say about his service write up, so i will get back to you all when i have it in hand... Thank you all,
Ok so He showed me his dealer invoice, and they did replace the F.I.C.M.
My guess is he missunderstood what the service advisor said on the phone,
the bill ended up at 1,122
Soooo more about this saving money thing... On the invoice it said the tech tried to reprogram the old one first, which he said did not work, then after install he had to program the new one... I would think this would have to be done at the dealership, is this correct?
