Hello all, new here to this site and so far I am really enjoying it. I have my first question to post already even. I have just ordered a new 2003 C/C 4X4 Long bed, as per my signature below, I have yet to receive it but should in the next couple of weeks. The question that I have is that by the Ford Sales Brochure it shows that the height between the C/C short bed and C/C long bed differs by almost 3.5", with the long bed being shorter. Does any know if this is true and if it is why it is true? At first I thought that it was because of guys pulling fifth wheels and goosnecks, but then saw that the F350 Duallys were almost 4.5" inches taller at 80 inches. I realize that this is not really a big deal but I am just curious. I currently own a 2000 F250 S/C long bed with a V-10 and by the brochure my new truck will be shorter then what I have now by about 3 inches.
The only difference I'm aware of is the size of the rear block. My brothers f-250 has a 1.5 inch and my f-350 has a 3.5 inch. Also the dually has a dana 80 rear which may have bigger outside diameter axle tubes which would make the dually a little taller in the rear.
My brochure says the F250 SWB Ht. is .2" taller than the LWB. I was at a dealer last week measuring F250 and F350 Crewcabs from the top of the bed rails to the ground and found that this distance was usually the same unless they had different tire sizes. ken1
Thanks for the info Ken1, after reading it I went and got my brochure again and you were right, the difference in height is listed as being .2" different, however this was for the 4X2 models. I was looking for the 4X4 models, which my brochure shows a difference of 76.6 for the LWB compared to 79.8 for the SWB. Still don't really understand it, kinda hoping that it is just a typo in the brochure. I would hate to have to shell out another 700 dollars just to get it to the height I want right after I buy it, had I known this I would have opted for the F350, which shows a height of 80.0", for only about 600 dollars more.
Hmmm, well the CC/LWB is a heavier truck, and the added length would leverage the front spring a little more, but I've parked next to several shorty crews, and there is not that much (if any) difference in front. The rear depends on 2" or 4" blocks.
Ok, first off I would like to thank everybody for posting their ideas and info to my question, it was a great help to me. I finally got smart and went right to the Ford website and looked up the specs for the S/D. It shows that the height of the C/C SWB is 79.8" while the C/C LWB is 79.6", not the 76.6" that my brochure shows. It appears that y'all were right in that it was only a typo and that the real height difference is negligible. Thanks again for the input
