First of I'm new here, I just bought a 1972 F-100 that I will most likely be seeking lost of help with... I'm not much mechanically inclined. I do have the Ford manual on cd which has been a help. The truck I have is in fairly good shape and it seems to be just minor things that I will be looking for help with. I will be posting pictures (if I can) of things I will be asking about so you know what I am talking about, I dont know what all the proper terms for different parts are, but if you give me a name of something I can find it pretty easy... anyhow enough about me.. like I said the truck is a 72 F-100 long bed 4 wheel drive, 360 motor which runs pretty good. 4 speed manual transmission. right now it has the gas tank behind the seat, I believe this truck has 2 tanks (one on each side of the bed, underneath) that I think are probably custom add ons, but they could be from the factory, I dont know. I do want to take the tank out from behind the seat eventually and most likely take the 2 out from under the bed and put in a 20 or 22 gallon tank. I saw one in LMC truck but I dont think it will work. I will attach pictures in a latter post.
This truck is going to be used for a wood truck and not really a daily driver unless we get some good snows. The person I bought it from warned me about the 4 wheel drive and said that if I put it in 4 wheel drive I will have to back up a ways for it to disengage, so I'm thinking that the gear rations in the front and back are not the same. I could go on about other problems (minor at the moment) but I dont want to bore you.

The gears are most likely the same, almost all older 4WD's will bind up and you need to back up a few feet to release the pressure on the drive line, then push the lever back to 2WD.

Noted... Thank you! I usually back up a bit anyhow even in my 98 Ranger.
My first question of the day is I would like to remove this from my truck, but I would like to be able to still have the heater. is this possible? the AC unit under the hood is shot and I plan on pulling everything out of there and scrapping/selling the parts
