pulley squealing badly
An old Ford Ranger owner here but this concerns my son's '07 Taurus 3.0 liter V-6. When the car starts the noise is an intermittent chirp and after 3 minutes it is a steady squeal coming from the belt area. I have replaced idler and tensioner on my '99 Ranger so I know a little. Can we rule out the water pump at only 55,000 miles? Please say yes and I will spray the pulley bearings with WD40 first one then the other to see which one it is. He only stops by now and then so we had almost no time to troubleshoot this weekend. If I have a plan of action I'll have him here early Saturday to tackle it. BTW, is it worth the time to remove the coolant tank to get at the pulleys? I've change pulleys without doing that.
