hey guys i have an 05 f250 6.0L, i had my oil changed and then started reading about the caps for the filter, i realize i have the wrong one which is deeper then the OEM, i was wondering if i can just unscrew that one and replace it with an OEM one without having to drain out the oil? Also anyone know where to get an OEM one online? also oil filters, fuel filters, etc. Thank you!
Yeah, make sure the engine is off and swap out the cap. Did you use a motorcraft filter? If not you will want to swap out the filter too. If you don't have a ford dealership close. Try out tousley ford for online parts. The cap is about $20 but you should never have to buy another one.
Your looking for 3C3Z6766CA; depending on which Ford dealership you use...$20-$30 for the oil filter cap. I tried crossing it over to Navistar...but my list only covers 365VGT (the Navistar model name for the 6.0L); the oil/fuel filter housing on our trucks is the same as the 265VGT which is a V6. Might stop by your looking International parts counter and see what you can scare up using the name 265VGT (I've heard it called VGT265 as well).
If you go slow, the oil will drain out the bottom, quickly turn the filter upside down and the cap will catch the oil.
Snap on the new filter, or re-use your motorcraft one back in the new housing and put it back it will push down the filter thing when it goes in, don't try to push it down.
