2.8 fuel injection
I think the best place to start would be to look into a TBI system, unless you want to go with a multi-port system like the 2.9. If you were to take a TBI system off of a chebbie 2.8, like a mid- to late-80's S-10, that would work. You would have to wire it up, and probably punch a hole in the firewall for the harness, and adapt the throttle body to your intake, but that system will run that motor.
On an 84 BII that I previously owned, I swapped the feed-back carb for an older model Motorcraft 2150 (re-jetted with #53s). I then pulled the EEC distributor, related wiring, vacuum solenoids, and computer. I replaced the entire mess with a Mallory Unilite aftermarket distributor. After re-timing and tuning the carb, the BII ran like a champ.
but i live in the smog buster capital of California and that would never pass inspection
so my plan is to switch EVERYTHING and i mean all of it
and hope it flies at the referee station (that's where modified, with improvements, vehicles go to be approved for smog)
