i gotta problem...i was drivin down the road like normal and suddenly i hear this loud pop'n noise and my truck gets really loud (well, louder than it usually it). i pull into a wal-mart parking lot and i park and give it a few revs and its loud as hell and i checked the tail pipe and its still comin out like normal and i can hear the flowmaster tone when it gets rev'd up a little higher...so i checked for some leaks but there isnt any but i did notice this kinda whistlin noise. almost like a 300 without a muffler then i pop the hood to check the manifold and it doesnt really sound like its comin from there but it was kinda hot...but the temp guage was near the C...
so my guess is the 1st cat (where the downpipe goes into one) gutted itself (i dont have a 2nd one) or the manifold deveolped a leak but im kinda convinced the 1st cat is done for...
Check the pipe to the EGR valve. It comes off the exhaust manifold by the flange that the Y pipe bolts to and goes to the EGR valve. IT is probably rusted out somewhere along it's length.
figured out what happened. took it to my mechanic after 2 frustrating weeks of searching for it and turns out there was a little valve on the cat by the tranny next to the frame that blew out. he said it was a sign of the cat gettin clogged...
That's bull! It's a sign of that valve rusting out. They do it all the time, especially on vehicles that don't get run for very long at a time, like commuters. If the whole vehicle warms up, all the water gets cooked out of everything and it'll last longer, but there's not enough time for that to happen on short trips. That check valve only costs ~$15 and is easy to replace. Expect to change the other one soon.
