Front spring shakle shakin'

Front spring shakle shakin'
OK... have spent the day removing the stock front springs - both were "sprung" at the rear shakle. Got one in with the shim, now the passenger side shakle is loose - the rivits aren't holding. So now I know what caused that major "bang" and upheaval everytime I hit the these new curb/driveway combos they put in 80's developments here in Colorado.
Looks as if someone tried a weld job on it in the past. So, I'm thinking of grinding off the rivits and bolting it on. Any thoughts?
Thanks again to all who have responded to my shim question. Got one of 'em in just fine. I suppose I'll need a professional alignment.
