hey all, have a bit of a mis-match here, have a '85 F350 grew cab DRW, has a transplanted 7.3 with a C-6 tranny.
problem #1, uses roughly a qt of oil every 50 miles or so....
problem #2, speedo reads 12mph on the fast side, geared way low, no tach but pretty tapped out at 60mph true speed
not sure what year the 7.3 is, seems to run pretty good, just use it to tow my 26ft toy hauler.
glow plug relay unhooked, ether start it with no issues...
any ideas as to what can be done about the oil usage? does blow blue smoke at idle
changed the CDR valve, did the soup bowl mod, using a k&n style air filter, no idea on IP's last rebuild or injectors, no problem with starting....

What's the mileage on it? A quart of oil every 50 miles is pretty....well umm plain horrible!!!
Does it have a major oil leak? You say you did replace the CDR, witch rules that out. Given, any new part can be bad out of the box. Did you test it before installing it?
(to test a CDR, put your finger in the hole, where it connects to the back of the intake hat, and with your mouth, blow in that tiny vent hole on the other side of you finger, you should feel the diaphragm inside move out, towards your finger.)
As for gearing, sounds alot like your got the same gearing as my van - 4.10's with the C6, makes for a very high revver on the highway, and a top speed of about 70mph....
mileage is unknown, speedo has only 5 digits, as posted, not the original engine, don't think the '85s came with the 7.3, think the 6.9 was factory and there are stickers referencing the banks turbo on the radiator cross support...
no real oil leaks, the CDR seems to work as intended
the rear tires may be a bit smaller then factory? 215/85/16
no evidence of the turbo, other then the stickers and the banks muffler that was swapped out for a flow master, runs ok, only gets approx 10 mpg pilling the toy hauler, (approx 10k lbs )
other then the oil usage, thinking it's due for a IP rebuild and new injectors, maybe have the timing checked.....
