I have a 1973 CrewCab 2wd that I would like to convert to a 4x4 some day. I am curious, what year and model supercab frame will match up, as far as width is concerned?
As well, what is a SuperCab frame with running gear worth these days?
(Yes, I tried the search but it didn't yield the results I needed).
Hey Patric I too have a 73 crew cab 2wd and am in the process of collecting all the parts to convert my truck to a 4X4. I did some reaserch and found that 76 and back 2wd 3/4 TONS have basicly the same frame as the 4x4 3/4 tons do. The diffrence is the crossmembers.
The good thing about the older trucks is the cross members are riveted in not welded. So find your self a 73-76 3/4 ton high boy someone is parting and get the cross members out of it you also could use the front end and divorced transfer case but the 78-79 front ends will also work and have a high pinion and the ring and pinion are reverse rotation (more ground clearance better driveline angle and stronger gears). Also the married transfer case from a 78-79 case is much better. One more thing you will need to get the steering box from a 78-79. I gess what Im trying to say is If you convert yours or switch cabs and bed its alot of work the only advantage to me is its hard to find a good crew cab frame. Hope this helps. Leadmic
