How big of a hassle is it to replace the radio in this truck with something better and what should I look for? My favorites are classic rock, classical, instrumental and talk, just not Hannity. Any suggestions?

Kick around here awhile and do a search on net the for car stereo installation and such on the net. (ytube) You can get new, ref. or used, personal I would get used since you will most likely upgrade later. Craigslist, forums, friends are a good resource for used.
Stop by car stereo shops ect. and listen to some different speakers to see what you like.
Install depends on your skill level and tools available, most stores like best buy ect. offer free install if you buy a system from them. Personally i like a good componet set up front with tweets mounted up high. A sub or 2 in the rear, at least 10 inch if possible but 8's will work if 10's or larger won't work. Good luck!
Thanks 70-360fe, I also shop a crutchfield. My main concerns are will all of the exsisting electronics connceted to the radio still work properly and how will an after market radio look in the dash, does anyone have any pics of their radio upgrades?

Depends entirely on how well the install is done, but generally yes, everything can be made to work.

You'd have to get model specific and even then finding pics of one installed will not be easy. If you have one in mind, Google the model # followed by "install pics" and you may get lucky.

If your just replacing the headunit I would contact crutchfield first. Not sure how security is wired or if it is wired to the radio. Not sure but it could be possible the vechile could go in to security mode and you won't be able to start the truck if you take out radio incorrectly. I would also check with a good stereo shop before you take it out.
Click on the cars stereo gps link on the next page you see on the left what fits your car. If you put in your truck model etc. it should give you some opitions for speakers that will fit in factory locations. Should also give you some radio mounting install kits. I would look at crutchfield first check prices and then at a shop/shops and check there prices. If you are doing a simple upgrade and you have never installed a radio or system it may be best to check with a few shops and best buys. Best buys and some other shops will offer free install if you buy there equipment.
If you just want to improve the sound you might be able to get new speakers and an amp/amps that have a line level input and just keep the radio you have. Again I would check first to make sure it would not set off the security sysrem.
