I changed all the fuel filters and oil today the waterseperator filter(frame) didnt seat flush. The o-ring is not visiable but there is a 1/16th gap between the filtercap and housing i work on my big trucks but all their filters are metal canister or spin-ons. I torqued to 20ft/p and have no leaks but am scared of the plastic cap breaking if i tighen any more. If any one has a clue it would be great oh ya i said every cuss-word and almost ripped my thumb off some one should be tied to a tree and for running every-thing in front of a filter.
Thanks
Did you put any diesel on the O ring before screwing in the cap? I find that makes it a lot easier to seat in. Honestly never had a problem with mine, maybe you want to recheck that the filter is seated properly?
ya cleaned and plenty of clean fuel on new o- ring. its true that water will pass by if filter is not seated right. I might try to back it off a couple of turns and try to re tourqe. Thanks for the info will try it
Was the filter the new one with the o-ring on the base? If so, I found that I needed to push the filter into the housing, then wiggle it a little bit while pushing. Doing that made it pop in an additional 1/4 inch, approximately. Then I put the cap on and tightened it until the lip met the housing.
No it was the old style. I took it off this mourning and made sure everything was were it needed to be. I removed the transfer case skid plate. That made it a lot easyer to get some room to work. Managed to get it flush with the housing but it is more than 20ft/p torque. No leakes. I also added a little grease to the treads and o-ring.

Exactly! fuel will make the 0-ring swell and harder to turn.
