If you go in a parts store and ask for a part for a 61 Ford likley you will leave empty handed. The part you need can be fabricated from a ball valve and a couple hose clamps. Used parts at that age are usually a waste of time. Just ask for a mechanical heater control valve. Also many vendors here will have a repro part or a suitable knock off. I have had a ball valve on my truck for over ten years. On in winter/off in summer. IMHO!
Thanks William, but I really would like to find a genuine or at least a reproduction of the valve if possible. I'm trying to keep the truck as original as possible except for safety items (ie) Power front disk brakes, radial tires, etc. I was hoping maybe Number Dummy could tell me where to find one. Thaks again, Rob
Where can you buy the heater (water) control for a 1962 F100. I can find valves for 65 and newer but they mount differently. Thanks for the help, Rob
There are two different heater valves, where does the type you need mount?
Deluxe fresh air heater: The valve (B8C-18495-A) is controlled by a cable, bolts to the right fender inner apron. The inlet to heater core heater hose splices into it on either side of the valve.
Manually controlled heater water shut-off valve (FDA-18495-A), mounts on engine / No Ford Dealer or oibsolete parts vendor has any.
Post #4: "Squire" Don gave you two sources for B8C-18495-A / Here are two more sources from the dealer parts locator =
GRIESEL MOTOR CO. in Okarche OK has [B[1[/B] = 405-263-7242.
PIONEER FORD in Groton SD has 1 = 605-397-2311.
Note: LINCOLN OLD PARTS STORE has 4 of these valves.
Thanks guys, your info has been very helpful. The one I need is for the fresh air heater. I called the old ford lincoln mercury parts store and they wanted 167$ That's crazy! The place in Tenn. never answered the phone. I'll try the other places Bill mentioned. Thanks, Rob
