Tuner questions
Anyone know how much on average a custom SCT xcal3 tuned truck will have with an exhaust and say gotts mod? I seen the generic SCT tunes say 22hp/20tq. I dunno, seems $4-500 for 20hp is kinda steep, but im coming from the old school here

Im new the whole tuneable engine thing, i have pretty basic vehicles (66 Merc Comet 390, 93 F-150 300, 88 F-350 7.3 IDI). So what tunes would everyone recommend? This truck will be my DD mostly, no towing. Lives where there are a lot of hills and plan to add an exhaust and at least Gotts it. Plan to bump up to at the most a 33" tall tire.
I was thinking 87 performance, but i dont know what else. No 93 perforance tunes cuz the gas stations here sell **** gas.
not that ill be jumping in and doing this tomorrow but just gathering my thoughts for when i do. And if they work, maybe this fella who does the SCT tunes can do one for my g/fs Ranger with the 4.SOHC. N yes i did search but the few threads i read ended in a pissing match about ebay and small stores or something.
Got a 5.4L V8 Ford F150-F250-F350-E Series Van?
While tunes in a gasser are not as dramatic as in a diesel, they do improve the driveability quite a bit. I'd call Mike, or send him a PM here (site sponsor) and ask him questions. Here's Mike's profile:

I have a loaded SCT X3 from Mike. I ran the 87 Perf tune for about 8 months, and recently jumped up to the 93 Perf tune. Noticeable difference in power, and low end power between the two tunes. 93 Perf being the stronger. Mileage picked up some too, just about enough to offset the additional costs of the 93 octane.
Tuners are a tricky subject as there are pros and cons for most tuners on the market. The information you get on the 22hp is the best that one of our trucks has ever gotten it is not the norm. The companies like to plug the highest number possible because it makes it sound better.
From canned or custom tunes you can expect about 8-12 extra hp. Maybe more maybe less it depends on the tuner and how your truck has been driven over the years in my opinion.
Best advice to you is to review all the options and find two or three you like then ask for people who have those tuners and get those responses. Asking a generic question like this about tuners will just bring on the age old argument of which is better canned or custom and then you really don't get the best information.
With having an idea of what will fit the budget you want to spend and then some information from people who have those tuners you can make a much better decision.
Good Luck!
