6.2L, tunes; how many tunes do you actually use?

I had an SCT X3 tuner for my 2002 F250 and now I'm considering one for my 2012 F350. I have a line on a used SCT X4 but I'd need to purchase my own custom tunes (5star, again).

The 2002 I had 3 tunes and I used 2 of them 98% of the time. For the 2012, which is an F350 CCLB 4x4, 6.2L, 4.30's and I'm about to put 35's on it, I'm considering the typical three (3) that most people get; economy, performance and towing.

The other thing I did with the 2002 was I had 87 economy and 93 performance. Well, it kinda sucked having to wait until my fuel tank was near the "E" to switch tunes - otherwise I'd run the risk of pinging. I won't do that again - they will all be the same octane (likely 87).

So how many tunes do you have for the 6.2L and which ones do you actually use?

On my 2016 I had their 4 custom tunes. I found my truck responded best to the 87 daily and that's all I ended up running once trying them all for enough miles.

I have a 5 star with three tunes...the DT, 87 Perf, and 93 Perf. I use the 87 perf pretty much all the time. The only time I go to the DT is IF I'm going to tow.

Tunes are great!

I am a new owner of a '15 6.2L. Coming from a tuned 6.0L leaves a lot to be desired from this 6.2L. I've read quite a bit about tunes and know the gassers don't respond nearly as well to tunes like the diesels, but it seems to be rather mixed when it comes to tuning the 6.2L. Some say it's useless and don't get any added benefits while other say the throttle response is better, but no additional MPG's are gained. I had a 5.4 in my '04 F150 with 5 star tuning and I didn't feel that it added all that much to the trucks performance, MPG and the giddy up didn't seem to be much different, especially for the price of the tuner. I just ran the canned tunes and never went the custom tunes route, but would consider it with this 6.2 if I knew it would add some real benefits to the driveability of the truck.

Let's just say that the device and tuner is money I'll never spend on a 6.2 again.
I just didn't see a noticeable return on investment.

Cool 6.2L, tunes; how many tunes do you actually use?

This is a great thread with excellent info on the development of the 6.2L

I think the quote was something like the 6.2L responds well to additional fuel?
