i think they all did since '83 there mudguts.
those who knew about the issue and were wise, cut their heater cord plugs.
its my understanding that many didn't find out about the issue until it was too late back in the day, know what i mean?
for years now,its been known to cut the cord right off so no one can mistakenly plug them old blocks in.
Found out a while ago that my engine was a junkyard swap early cast.
I could tell by the junkyard chaulk on the valve covers and the crushed oil pan where he must've tried to jack it up...
Dropped the starter because it was leaking coolant from where I thought the block heater was. Pulled the starter and saw some weird coating of some waxy junk. Ripped it out, was about half an inch thick at least and was covering a 4" welded section that was leaking coolant. No block heater
Ran some sort of block-based stop leak stuff and it's slowed the leaking down by far. Still sucks. I would rebuild this block if it wasn't for the mound of welds, but I've got another one from 87 that will be getting cleaned up probably
This block I have I just got back from the machine shop, where they hot tanked it, bored it 20 over, magna fluxed it and pressure tested it. they said it was good to go. but I will check the #s any way,and if it blows. Then I know where I can get a 1988 or 89 7.3 that starts right up, I personaly like working on these engines, It's relaxing compared to pouring concrete in the Arizona sun.lol MudGuts
