Ok so as some of you know i had to say good bye to my psd when fuel was through the roof cause i couldnt afford it. well ran accross a deal from a friend. its a 1985 f-250 with a fuel injected 302. he wants only 650 for the truck. looks decent but dont run. he told me he has no spark and when they put a used coil on it they had no spark while cranking and one pop when they let off the switch. you guys have always been a huge help to me in the passed with my old rig so im hoping your kindness and knowledge can help me with this gas motor cause im in new territory now. thanks in advance fellas.
I think in 85 they were in the beginning stages of the ICM located on the distributor housing. Those fail often, and are fairly cheap to replace. You may need the thin walled socket to remove the two bolts holding the ICM to the distributor housing.
I say it could be this, within no 100% certainty, but being familiar with having to replace those very very very often when I would have no spark! LOL

Yep, it was a magnetic pickup and the little module on the side of the distributor are known to fail. Should be able to get one at a junk year pretty cheap to try. Also pull the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is spinning when cranking the engine. IIRC it's just a worm gear meshing that could be damaged. Kinda miss my 302 as it was a easy engine to work on, just does not have the longevity of a PSD.
ok he is claiming a coil but just from browsing at parts it looks as though the engine should be fairly cheap to work on overall. just a new territory im in because its not an obs psd. i miss my truck so much and talking to you guys but ill prob be on here quite a bit now that i got another truck and you guys have always been more helpful to me than some of the other groups on here. thanks alot! ill post an update when i start working on it
