my drivers seat is worn out and seems flat. I suppose I could get a used seat but i'm not sure it would be much better. It looks at though newer and more recent rangers have a much more butt-friendly design. How easy would it be to upgrade to a newer style?
dont know about the newer but I think the floor pans are different. Got me some bucket seats out of an 01 explorer, electric for driver side. Also later got a set of leather electric seats from a eddie baurer so that I can put electric in for the wife. Paid around $100 for the 1st set $60 for the 2d.
So check you local wrecking yards. These were both direct drop ins BTW, only had to make an extension for the seat belts.

Was looking at pics of newer rangers on ebay and with the exception of the upholstery they look identical. I'll have to check out the exploder seats.
I replaced the driver's seat on my '91 a couple of years ago. The replacement came out of a '90 - '92 Ranger. It felt like a new one compared to the old one. I wouldn't assume that another seat for the same vintage would be as worn as your present seat. Try it before you buy.
Yeah maybe your right, it seems the previous owner sat on the left side and flattened it out and it makes me feel like I am always leaning on the door. The upolstery is velour and man without a/c it gets toasty in the summer and makes your **** sweat! My old Truck I had I put a saddle blanket seat cover on it and it was great. I found some saddle blanket seat covers for rangers but not sure I want to spend over $150 for a truck I only drive once or twice a week.
Another option for you is to get the passenger side seat bottom and use the foam cushion in you present driver's seat. The only possible drawback is that you lose the middle "seat." I made that modification when I replaced the driver's seat in my '91. Found an aftermarket "console" that fit into the space perfectly - it gave me close-at-hand storage and 2 cup holders.

I thought about swapping the 2 bottom seats with each other since I drive by myself mostly, I suppose I would have to cut the driver side though. I do have access to alot of used seat cushions from Caddys (don't ask) thought I could fluff up what I got with some of that foam, I dunno. yeah I could get rid of that center, it's kind of worthless to me and the armrest is more annoying than useful to me.
All you have to do to make a good number of seats from the RBVs or Tempo/Mustang etc fit is unbolt the seat frame from the seat.. 4 bolts? Then bolt the new ones on. Very simple to do. Pull one out and look at the way the frame bolts to the seat and you'll see what I mean.
