Steering.

I've got another question and this forum has been great! I have the 94 PSD 7.3 and i'm not sure whats wrong with the steering. But if i turn it one way it turns just fine but going the other way it acts like the power steering isn't working. Any thoughts on that?

Just to eliminate the obvious - is the fluid level good?

It's most likely a bad gearbox. I replaced mine a while ago and it worked find for a couple of days then decided it only wanted to turn right. Took it back to the parts store and had them replace it.

Yeah I think thats the way it turns easy and very rarely the front end will shake and makes the entire truck shake and if i turn the steering wheel it will quit so I should be looking at the gearbox?

I think I paid around $150 at O'reillys and hate it. I went cheap and got cheap. I'd recommend getting a Red-Head or AGR. That's what I'll be doing for my next gearbox.

2x for red head. Best gearbox available for this application IMO.

Agreed. But pulling the last bolt and starting the first one can be quite tricky by yourself. I don't know how heavy it really is, but when you're sitting awkwardly under the front of the truck, trying to hold the box in place with one hand while turning a bolt with the other, the damn thing feels like it's near 100lbs! Having a second person there just to turn a bolt makes it a heck of a lot easier.

It's probably about 60-70 lbs of iron, so yeah, a second set of hands would really make it easier to do. It was a handful to remove the one from my parts truck by myself, and that was with the whole front clip off the truck. I can only imagine trying to work around all that stuff and get it started back on there by yourself.
