Screeeeeeeeaming Suspension!!!!!

F-150 with a 5.4L (duh!) Loaded up 180 6" x 12" bricks and before the fork lift let go of the pallet, the truck bed was almost on the ground. I had to load 1/2 them by hand and come back for the rest. I was ticked and a little shocked. The motor didnt feel a thing when driving but the body was crying like a little baby. What do I have to do to change this, what has been done in hte past and how much will it cost? I dont want a $10,000 make over but just a stronger suspension. Let me know.

I would get a trailer if your going to be doing this very often with that kind of weight.

There are products, like helper springs(inexpensive) and airbags($200-1,200+) that will help support the load but they don't increase the load carrying capacity. To increase the actual load capacity you'll spend a lot. Might be easier to trade in on a 250 or 350.

If you'll need to very occasionally carry more than the 150's rated for I think the previously mentioned trailer option would be the way to go. The cost to rent a trailer many times is probably less than the cost to increase the load capacity.

I don't know how much weight the truck will hold but Harbor Freight sells a trailer thats good to just under 1000# for like $250. I've been thinking about getting one so I don't have to take my cap off if I have something higher to haul. There is also U-Haul that will rent you a 12'X6' enclosed trailer for $29.99 for 24 hours. If you rent you would not have to store it if thats a problem. They also rent open trailers for similar amounts.

If each of those bricks weighed 10# then those 180 bricks would be almost 1 TON (1800#). I think that seems like A LOT of weight to expect a 1/2 ton P/U to carry. Think that even if you beefed up the suspension that kind of weight would take a toll on your trucks other components. I'm sure the engine and tranny would be OK but all the other stuff would be straining. I know I had 10 Tons of stone delivered last summer for a shed base and paid like $30 for delivery and they dumped it right where I wanted it and all I had to do was spread it out.
