Both alternators have their own regulators.
On a single alternator system, the instrument cluster powers the I circuit through the battery light to the alternator to turn on the regulator and start charging when the glow plug cycle is complete.
On a dual alternator system, the PCM takes over this function and a wire from the PCM to the instrument cluster controls the battery light.

Wow learn something new everyday, When I bought my truck new I ordered the dual alt setup and could not be happier, just didn't know that not many were made or that the PCM controlled the charge,again more info on fte that get filed into the back of brain for use someday.I just love reading here it's addictive. So I guess thats why the dealer looked at me and said dual Alts do they make that. Yep
