Alright, here's the deal. I have a noise coming from my 4x4 hubs that sounds like ball bearing rattling around (which I'm sure it is). When I turn on my 4x4 the noise goes away and everything works as it should, hubs lock, its all good.........but the noise. The hubs are also stuck on auto and won't turn freely by hand (or pliers). So, what the solution? I have read and read about replacing these with manuals but I love not needing to get out to turn on 4x4. Could I just get buy with greasing them, or are they shot. I pulled one and it was almost completely dry.
Also, different part but I'm sure its related. I'm hearing a droning noise from the front as I drive. I'm assuming its the hub bearing assembly but when I jack it up there is no play in the wheels at all. Any advice would be appreciated.

look at the thread on servicing the auto hubs in the tech folder and see if that helps any
Sounds like the hubs are trying to engage - what year is the truck? There's been a few changes over the years. Maybe do a search using ESOF and your model year? The tech folder is also a fantastic resource.
If it's 04 or earlier, and you are hearing bearing noise with the hubs unlocked, but it goes away with the hubs locked, then you have a needle bearing problem. They may just need greased. The best way to test this is to manually lock the hubs but leave it in 2WD and see if the problem goes away. But if your hubs are frozen you can't do that.
Look up Guzzle's needle bearing lube procedure. This is what you'll need to do.
