Yep those are really good numbers and he didn't even have his w/m on. That is once reason for sure why bbost was a bit lower...

No it has a Db4 built by Dps... It is supposed to put out 150cc of fuel but based on the dyno might have been pushing a lil less fuel than originall thought...

Does it seem like +6* is a prety common sweet spot?

I would think that it depends on the build for timing. There are a lot of factors that go into it...

Talking don't try that at home.

no it's sure not.he didn't say,but im sure he was talking about 6 degree's BTDC.or like you say +6.the normal idi would be sluggish here.
but as you increase pressure into the cylinders, the more you need to retard the timing.stock is 8.5 BTDC.it's not surprising to see his ideal timing retarded a couple degree's giving the high boost he's running.

it also has alot to do with my camshaft. The more efficient you become, the more retarded you can run the timing. It injects the diesel closer to TDC, running 8.5* like the stock setting causes my engine to burn the diesel too soon.

@NMB2
Congrats on the near 300 rwhp!

Is 29% PL normal for a zf5? Sounds high to me but I haven't ever looked into that on our trucks . Also unless I'm doing the math wrong wouldn't crank power be 411hp/964ftlb with 292rwhp/614ftlb and 29% loss?

Good luck on the pump situation too... Maybe Ken dropped the flow to protect the shaft?

Either way thats some kick@$$ numbers you laid down

Standard ZF5/SRW is generally about 24%. The extra drag is the rotating mass and contact of the extra tires.

292 x 1.29 = 376.68
614 x 1.29 = 792.06

Got cha'. What do you do to the cam when you grind it to make it more efficient?

Nice job Justin ... You've inspired, that in itself is a success!

Ya, I'm disappointed, Like you, I would of liked and expected to see higher numbers, but it is what it is.

Great job.

Looks like it could still use more fuel ... Sure would like to see that pump on another stand to get verification of the fuel delivery per.

-Enjoy

Everything. I make it a turbo-specific cam, whereas the other cams available are still based on N/A specs.

PSD guys say my power numbers are on par with a PSD in the 130-150cc fuel range. Even they acknowledge that a ZF5, 2 d-shafts, and a set of duallies is alot to spin though. Had it been a regular SRW truck we would of seen probably 310hp and nearly 640tq, but none of that really matters because it'll never be in that kind of truck. Just easier to make a comparison that way.

I made 207hp/477tq over a stock 6.9 IDI.... thinking of it that way puts it into a different perspective. For me at least... I'm pretty happy with where it is at.

I am going to take this opportunity of Racin' needing a new IP, to do a free upgrade on mine that may cost me $1500 down the road.

Next time I dyno.... I should have a bigger IP, new rear end gears, some more miles.... and Ill slap it with some real methanol!

Yes! New pump should be sweet. If it were me tho, I'd keep it as is! Those numbers are very respectable for an old 80's diesel motor! and like you said man, ur not building a race car or a sled puller...for a daily driver / reliable tow rig I'd say you hit the nail on the head! Nice job with it!

But...knowing you...I know you want to get what can out of it

I'm not quite sure why it shows MPH on bottom instead of the RPM. I can call them tomorrow and see if they can send me a copy with RPM on bottom. I seen her clicking through the options but it didn't cross my mind at first what she was doing.

Anywho. the first pull started @ 1800, and I just matted it to the floor

The last 2 started @ 1500, I rolled into it till 1800 then matted it. Seemed to be smoother/make more power that way.
If you refer back to one of the dyno vids that shows the dyno screen during run, I think the cut off was around 3300

60mph is 2250, 65 is 2400, 70 is just over 2500 when I cruise.
