IP cylinder numbering sequence
After a lengthy retreat from working on my project truck on account of health related issues, I am finally getting back to where I left off, several months ago. I'm in the process of replacing the IP on my truck and have come up with a question related to the cylinder firing sequence of the IP. I was following the information in my Chiltons manual (silly me
) and this is the information I have taken from it: passenger side bank of cylinders numbered 1 through 4; driver's side bank cylinders numbered 5 through 8. I already know this is in error and that the correct sequence is 1, 3, 5, 7 for the passenger side; and 2, 4, 6, 8 for the driver's side, and that the firing order is 1-2-7-3-4-5-6-8. Now, to my question: how are the outlet ports numbered on the IP itself, when viewing the output fittings? Chiltons shows, in a CCW rotation, viewing the fittings starting at the 11 o'clock position: 6, 8, 1, 2, 7, 3, 4, and 5. Is this correct or is Chiltons leading me down the wrong path again?
As always, thanks for your comments and suggestions.
Cheers,
Norman C
