Hey guys...
I'm facing some hard decisions here. I had plans on a 302 this summer and fixing my truck up real nice, but my dad told me to just put a new clutch in it, new rings and sell it so I can get something more economical for college. So my question is simply this, could you give me an approximate asking price on my truck?
The following are what it has:
brand new shocks
new exhaust
new eagle alloys 589 rims
new courser AT tires (3000) w/ 50,000 mile warranty
New paint last fall
all new headline, seat, carpet, dash, shifter
sandblasted and painted bumpers
complete new brakes system
and would have a new clutch and rings
I would have posted a price but thought I'd rather post this instead:
Given the fact that old classic trucks are getting harder to find, people are now starting to refurbish or customize the not so popular years and body styles. 61-66 trucks are perfect example of this. I never remember anyone saying "my favorite truck of all time was my dads 64 F100" It was always the mid fifties or late 60's trucks because of the styling and parts available.
Now your truck for example has been gone through and freshened up to suit your needs and it made you happy. So lets say you spent $5k and you were planning another $5k to get it just right. If I was Joe Average and started looking at your truck witht the intent of buying, I would have to look for everything I could to drop the price from the $5k you already invested. I would be looking under and behind every panel for rust, asking for reciepts to verify the replacement of certain parts that can't be seen (Brakes and engine components), vehicle color (as I would rather have blue than red), Deduct for the incorrect tailgate, deduct for the dented grill and header panel, and what ever else that is still not complete. Since the engine is in need of a rebuild, I would more than likely walk away from the deal.
In all honesty, you have a nice looking ride there and you should be proud of how it lokks, I personally would offer about $1200.
Sorry
You obviously have some talent and ability. Keep your truck and buy a beater for college do the clutch and rings or 302 later when you can afford it or have time. Believe me you'll wish you had a truck the day you sell it. You'll lose less investment by keeping the truck, and just parking it for now, and getting into a cheap transportation car that needs some work that you can dispose of when college is done or your making more money. You won't get back what you've got into your truck so selling is a losing proposition.
I say don't sell it but do the clutch! them when you do the 302 latter after school use that clutch disk and pressure plate (but not flywheel there different)on the 302. That will save you some $. Are you sure its rings?
Go buy a sideswiped Hyundia for under $500 and drive that. It was a rough winter theres bound to be deals on semi wrecks.
I really like the body style. My dads is a 65, but his has a chrome grill and black bumpers. His bed is different than yours it doesn't match up with the body lines and has bigger wheel opennings, and circular tail lights. It was a faded yellow almost a cream color then he painted it competion orange, and put some centerline rims with 32/11.50 BFG tires. The old rims were skinny black ones with ford hub caps.
Thanks guys for the advice. I'm not sure what exactly i'm going to do right now, but i'm keeping my options open. I may just put it for sale and if the right price comes take it but not be in a hurry. I'm not sure. Thakns again guys!
