What kind of car are you looking into getting there F250? Another ****vic?
and what is wrong with a crown vic?
if you keep your foot out of the throttle, they get very good mileage. i get 25+ on the highway and 15-17 in town with the garbage ethanol blend.
granted i can drop that to 7 mpg if i play drive it like ya stole it!
i don't care what i get actually as long as she pushes upwards of 30-35 mpg or more.some little cheap compact 4cyl. beater i guess.i can always rip out a junk seat and bolt in a good one further back for leg room.
i had a '96 v6 t-bird that i got 25-28 mpg with last time.was pretty good for it's time, but not today.sure would be cool to find a little diesel car cheap!
Somewhere in the near future, for a work travel car, I'd like to find a early 90's Buick Park Avenue, or a same years Century, and swap in a VW Diesel engine in that. Won't be fast, but I'll be able to cruise in a decent car, and get great small diesel car mpg!
$4.19 here in CT. It was lowering until stupid winter hit. After i scrap / part out my plow truck i'm getting a little car. Gas is like $3.70 here and if i get 30mpg i wont complain. I'll hate driving it but oh well.
Diesel's 3.94 at the Mobil off Exit 30 here in Southington if you feel like the drive Go up the road a mile to the next Mobil by exit 31 and it's 4.19. Two miles past that and it's 4.21 in Bristol. Why is there a 25-cent difference a mile apart? Jeez.
Funny though, on the EPA mpg rating site, 1999 Buick Century 3.1L V6 4 speed OD is rated at 17mpg city, and 26 highway.
And a 1992 Buick Roadmaster, 350 V8 4 speed OD, is rated at 16mpg city, and 25 highway.
You got like twice the car, and only 1 less mpg?
We got a new equinox, and it was the worse vehicle we ever ever had, it gets 21 MPG with a 34+ or so MPG sticker.
We still got it, but also got a 1996 caprice classic v8, with stright pipes, v8 and alloy wheels. It gets 26 MPG, and costs a lot less to keep on the road.
Whoever allowed the car companies to put outrageous mileage stickers on vehicles to sell them, should be shot and defecated on. My .02$
hmmm.... wonder if i can slide a new harley past the wife with the teaser of getting 40+ mpg.........yup, didnt think so. gotta go now, and she says i cant play with you guys anymore today.

Forget about that! I had a 1981 VW diesel rabbit as well as a 1988 Buick Electra, and let me tell you, 56HP is barely enough for a Rabbit, nevermind a car that weighs 1500lbs more!
If you can somehow overlook the crappy electrical system reliability and other niggling issues (sticky door handles, crappy power window regulators, and so on), look at a late 1990s VW TDI diesel (the pre-1999.5 Jettas were best because they had fewer power options than the Passats). Good power, superb mileage, and plenty of room inside.
I've got a 1996 Passat TDI sedan sitting in my driveway with a leaky IP (the ULSD was the final straw for those aging seals). I have never gotten lower than 40mpg in that thing (typically 45), and I can drive from Seattle all the way down to Northern CA on the same tank of fuel! It's not a racecar, but the turbo kicks in early and it really is fun to drive (when something isn't broken on it - I cannot overemphasize the love/hate relationship I have with this car and can now empathize with Jaguar owners). The drivetrain is bulletproof, but it's the rest of the car, not so much! It does help to have a parts car though!

Yeah I have had it with vw's I hate working on them. ford only for me now. They made a 4 cyl diesel ranger back in the early 80's
84 to 87 ford tempo and mercury topaz.
2.0 L Mazda 4 cylinder diesel, it got 50 mpg all the time.
only problem was it was an interference engine, and the timing belt was only good for 60k miles. if you did not replace the timing belt at the recommended 50-55 k miles, the belt snapped and took the engine out with it.
