although it was a few years back...when I was pumping gas in NJ I used to get tips about ever 5th car that came through. Especially if I cleaned their windows.
I guess it's like those homeless guys who walk up and wash your car windows even though you don't need it done...when their done you feel obligated to give em a buck or two. Either way, I usually got enough in tips to buy a tank of gas or dinner every night.
But I'm sure that has gone out the window...people are cheap these days. ..."They get paid to do their job! Why should I pay more for something they get paid for already?"... Honestly gas attendants don't make too much over min. wage!
Back in the days of leaded gas the gas neck opening was large enough to vent off while you filled the tank. Now the restricted tube backs up pressure above what the half inch vent tube can handle. Filling the tank at a lower input will usually do the trick.
i live in nj and no you dont tip the attendant. they get paid. i feel our gas prices are more than comprable to other states or cheaper than states that you pump your own. regular is about $1.45 and super is $1.65. you have to wash your own windows up here in north nj though.
