or, K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, stupid!) also applies.
Although the front leafs on our trucks do make the turning radius horrendous. New Super Duty's dont use them.

Yeah, coils would be nice. I have had a couple 80 series Land Cruisers; solid front axle, coils all around, and front and rear electric lockers, from the factory! They were doing this in the mid 90s. Those things ride like a dream, too.
